I've spent a career designing, building, and running mission-critical server, network, and cloud infrastructure: first for a company of my own, then on contract for Fortune 500 companies, and finally for a global software company and a pharmaceutical firm until 2022, when I left the corporate world to work for myself again. Now I bring that experience to family businesses and small companies. The same standards, without the enterprise cost. Technology Keeps Changing. Doing Right by Clients Doesn't.
My career began at the dawn of the PC era, with the TRS-80 and the IBM PC, and grew alongside the industry itself: Novell networking in the 1980s, an ISP I founded in the mid-1990s and operated until 2012, and the web hosting and data center operations that grew with it.
Since then, I have served as an IT contractor in various roles for Fortune 500 companies, including Liberty Mutual, Wachovia, and A.G. Edwards, and managed network and server operations for a global software company and a pharmaceutical firm. Cisco and Meraki network design has run through all of it. Today, the work is AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and AI-Augmented Software Engineering.
I did the work in the era of Novell Certified Network Engineer, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, VMware Certified Professional, and Cisco Certified Network Professional. Those certifications have long since lapsed, as certifications do. What they taught has not. Today's platforms abstract the network, the servers, and the storage away, and I learned how all three behave before there was an abstraction over them. That is why new technology is rarely new to me: I can see what it is doing underneath, which makes it quick to judge and quick to apply to your problem. The one still current is AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.
What has not changed in all that time: businesses need technology that works, from someone who tells them the truth about it. NET1Plus is deliberately small. You work with me, not an account manager. I take on the clients I can serve well, and I stay with them.
Fun fact: net1plus.com has been registered since October 1995, before google.com or facebook.com existed.
